About Me
My name is Yvonne Alonso. I'm originally Mexican-American from Los Angeles and I've lived in wonderful Copenhagen half my life.
My background in various team sports and contemporary dance is what got me hooked on fitness and healthy living.
After working as a professional freelance dancer most of my young adult life, I became a certified personal fitness trainer and instructor.
In 2012, I decided to set a new goal for myself that took my training to the next level: compete in my first bikini fitness competition on September 7th 2014. The only catch was that I would do it on my own. I would be my own coach/personal trainer and I would design my own meal plans. This was a personal challenge in order to utilize my knowledge and further expand it.
In 2014 I started competing in Bikini Fitness placing in the Top 6 both at the Danish DBFFs New Comers and the National competition. Placing in the Top 6 in Danish competitions made me eligible to compete internationally and I have since competed in 2 international comps in 2015.
In November 2020 I helped launch a new Barry's studio in Copenhagen in the midst of a pandemic. As Master Trainer at Barry's Copenhagen I recruited, trained and worked with my team of skilled trainers delivering the best workouts in world in our Red Room. In 2022 I stepped down as Master Trainer to focus on my own business but continued to teach classes at Barry's Copenhagen simply because I LOVE to teach.
Currently, I am based out of Sporting Heath Club and focused on coaching clients either one-on-one, as couples or larger private group fitness classes for clubs or companies. I'm passionate about coaching in proper strength training techniques and helping clients create sustainable healthy habits.
I've been vegan for 6+ years and I truly enjoy the plant based lifestyle. So during the first lockdown I spent my time becoming a certified Plant Based Nutrition Coach so I can best guide those clients interested in transitioning their diets.
When I'm not training clients or myself, I really enjoy working on content for my instagram @myworkout_yvonne, taking my 2 dogs for walks and living the fit life in beautiful Copenhagen.

My Fitness Journey

Getting and staying fit is not merely about genetics or dieting, it's a lifestyle and a conscious choice that everyone can make and achieve.
I've exercised my entire life, but my weight constantly fluctuated and I did not see the changes in my figure that I desired. I was not born with what you'd call the naturally slim body of a bikini athlete, I decided to work hard to achieve the body of my dreams. I was never overweight, but I had never been a skinny girl either.
It wasn't until I got serious about my eating habits and began training compound exercise with heavy weights that I began seeing real changes in my body.
The results of my hard work were fueling my motivation as I saw and felt the difference in my muscle tone, my clothes and my confidence on a weekly basis.
If I could do it, then so can you!
In the pictures below you can see my development during the first 6 weeks of eating correctly, and training regularly and heavy.
The first picture was taken April 26, 2013.

As you can imagine, I was ecstatic about my progress and I felt very motivated to continue. But I knew that my weakness for sweets and desserts would end up ruining my progress once the novelty of my weight loss wore off. So I decided to make a long-term goal for myself: compete in my first bikini fitness competition and I would do it all by myself. I wanted to utilize and expand my knowledge as a personal trainer and transform myself into an athlete.
It took me 2 years to get into what I considered was competition shape since, as I mentioned in the beginning, I had a pear shape that I needed to sculpt in order to achieve the body I wanted. But first I had to undergo a proper bulking phase (muscle building phase) before I could start sculpting and cutting (reducing overall body fat) for the competition.
Below you can see pictures of me on stage at my 2 first competitions. The picture on the left, in the orange bikini, was taken Septemeber 7th 2014 at DBFFs New Comers Debut Competition. I came in at around 13.9% body fat and I made to finals and placed 6th. The judges' feedback after the competition was that they loved me but they wanted to see me slim down and tighten up my thighs a bit more.
So I took this feedback and went to work. Exactly 3 weeks later (picture on the right), I stood on the same stage at 12% body fat and, with the right training and diet, I managed to lose 3 cm around my thighs. It doesn't sound like much, but I could see and feel the difference. I placed 5th in the finals that time.
It just goes to show that you can accomplish a great deal with your body if you really want it. All you have to do is make a plan, stick to it, give it 110% and you can achieve it. If I can do it, you can definitely do it too!
Now I have new exciting goals and future competitions in my sights and I, of course, will keep trying to go for the gold! So follow me on my journey and let's get up, get out & get FIT together! <3
