2 Perfect Finger-Food Ideas
So I’ve been experimenting with a couple of ideas that are perfect finger-food snacks, great for when hosting guests or just while lounging around at home. They are delicious, healthy, and both easy and inexpensive to make.
I’m a big fan of melon wrapped in Serrano ham. Who isn’t? It’s delicious! Unfortunately, Serrano ham has a high sodium and fat content. You could discard the fat, but where’s the fun in that? The fat is part of the flavor. Plus each slice packs around 70-75 calories.. yikes.
So I set out to find a healthier alternative and I chose turkey bacon, which at 30-35 calories per slice is a great compromise and it still tastes great!
Honey melon, raspberry & turkey bacon snacks
Ingredients

1 Honey melon
1 pack Turkey bacon
1 pack raspberries
Toothpicks
Method
Cut the honey melon out in bite-sized squares
Rinse the raspberries and set aside
Fry the turkey bacon in a non-stick pan (you could use cooking spray if you prefer)
Let turkey bacon cool before either using your fingers or a knife to make approx. 2 inch pieces
Put the melon squares on a platter, fold the turkey bacon on top, add the raspberry and spear the 3 ingredients with the toothpick.
Serve right away or keep chilled in fridge.
Next up, is a great way to curb that ice cream craving! One day I remembered that as a kid, in Mexico, they used to sell frozen bananas on a stick covered in all sorts of naughty yumminess. I thought to myself, the idea is brilliant, but a whole frozen banana seemed like overkill. So I decided to make small bite-sized banana pieces, I coated them with melted 85% fair trade dark chocolate and coconut flakes.
Chilled choco-coconut banana treats
Ingredients

3 ripe bananas (but not too ripe)
70 gr dark chocolate (70% and up)
3/4 cup Coconut flakes
toothpicks
Method
Peel and cut the bananas in bite-sized pieces
Pour coconut flakes into a deep dish, set aside
Line a baking sheet with baking paper
Melt the chocolate
Once the chocolate is melted, using a fork, carefully coat the banana in the chocolate, dip gently in the coconut flakes and place on baking sheet, spear each with toothpicks
When you’ve coated all your banana pieces, cover sheet with plastic or foil (careful, don’t squish your treats)
Place sheet in freezer for 20 min. Serve right away or move them to fridge to keep chilled.
