This week's favorite
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of the American fitness expert Michael Matthews (Also known as Mike to his followers). I've read all his books and I regularly visit his website: www.muscleforlife.com to read his fitness- and nutrition-related articles.
In fact, Mike's training book Bigger, Leaner, Stronger (BLS) was the one of the biggest influences on my training when I started on my fitness journey to the stage over two years ago. It made such a strong impression on me due to his refreshing, no-nonsense approach to fitness and bodybuilding.
This week's favorite Beyond Bigger Leaner Stronger (BBLS) is the long-awaited sequel to BLS. Like all of Mike's books, BBLS is a good, short read jam-packed with lots of useful information. All the science is linked to medical studies and thoroughly explained in layman's terms, making it easy to understand and implement.
If you haven't read BLS, then I strongly recommend you do before starting with BBLS, since it's intended on taking an experienced weight-lifter familiar with the BLS routine to the next level.
For you ladies who love to lift and are looking to lose body fat and gain muscle, Mike also wrote Thinner, Leaner, Stronger (TLS).
Mike Matthew's books are what helped me get started with my fitness journey and, ladies, in case you are worried that lifting will make you "look too big and bulky"..
On the left is me in 2011 doing loads of cardio and light weights with high reps. On the right is me in 2014, only doing HIIT cardio 3 times a week and focusing on heavy compound exercise with fewer reps.
And THAT is why BBLS, BLS and TLS will always be on my favorites list. Buy them and read them! ;) You'll thank me (And Mike, of course) later.
